Pantone’s “Color of the Year” has been announced and it asks for a world that revives and restores in 2017. After a year that has been lovingly labeled a dumpster fire, the color company has decided that 2017’s color should symbolize new beginnings and a fresh outlook on life. As Leatrice Eiseman, the Executive Director of Pantone Color Institute stated, the color “symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another, and a larger purpose.”

Pantone 15-0343 Greenery is a lush green that is sure to catch the eye. Find a positive balance in the new year by following these design trends for a brighter 2017.

Accents

Because Greenery is such a bright color, you may not want to cover every wall of your house with it. However, an accent wall or some throw pillows on the couch are great ways to incorporate this invigorating color into your home. A pop of spring color may give you the mood boost you need to navigate your way through the year ahead.

Garden

The best thing about Greenery is that it is a color found in nature. Make yourself wall garden that can help you cook or a DIY terrarium to bring a little piece of nature inside. Houseplants not only help circulate the air in your home, they can also make you feel better both physically and emotionally.

Mix and Match

While Pantone has chosen a bright color to bring in the new year, other color companies have gone the opposite route. PPG Paints has chosen Violet Verbena, a light purple-gray, as their color of the year and Benjamin Moore chosen a darker, but similar, shade called Shadow. While the darker colors may seem sullen, when used correctly, they can invoke the feeling of luxury. The best part is that you don’t need to choose between the colors—these shades are complimentary to Pantone’s Greenery, making it possible to include both colors in your interior design this year.
